Honeycomb: The World Beyond Demo: Time Limit & Saves
The 2026 demo
Frozen Way released the demo on 31 August 2026, eight days before launch. From its announcement:
- Each session “ends after 2 hours of playtime or once you reach a specific milestone in the main questline, whichever comes first”.
- “Starting a new game resets the timer, and you can do so as many times as you like.”
- It covers landing, first resources, basic base building and the first bioengineering tools.
The earlier release-date post had said “around 1 hour of playtime”; the two-hour cap in the launch post is the later figure. The demo is a separate Steam item (app 2959440).
Does the demo save carry over?
Yes. “The demo saves should be fully compatible with the full version of the game,” the developer replied when asked. A player noticed the demo download was the same size as the full game.
The timer complaints
The time limit was the demo’s most discussed feature. Some players did not see it ticking in the top-left corner and lost a session to a phone call; others felt they ran out just as building became interesting. Plan the two hours around reaching the base.
Older demos
- June 2024: the first public demo, ahead of Steam Next Fest (10 to 17 June). It offered only the Survivalist mode. Feedback led to a pie-menu tutorial, a bloom toggle and a motion-blur slider.
- Gamescom 2023, 2025 and 2026, PAX West 2024, ChinaJoy 2026: event-only builds. The Gamescom 2025 build had a 30-minute timer.
Giveaways around the demo
Frozen Way ran a Gleam giveaway for demo players with a bundle of Honeycomb, Builder Simulator and House Flipper 2 (or House Flipper Remastered Collection instead). An earlier Alienware Game-N-Go giveaway drew “well over 200,000 entries”, with the winner to be picked the week after release.
